Divine Messages - 86 : God Spoke To Me by Eileen Caddy - Be - 1/2

An extract from the book “God Spoke To Me” by Eileen Caddy – Section “Be”
·
·       ACCEPT PERIODS OF REST - Just "being" is as essential as "doing". Enjoy life in its different phases, in its changing colours and moods. Watch the perfect pattern unfold and develop. It is not what you say that matters. It is what you are and how you live. Accept these periods of rest. I will make it clear when it is necessary for you to go into action.

·       PERFECT RHYTHM - There are times of activity and there are times of peace. Learn to enjoy each state as it comes and realize how necessary this is. There is the time for the in drawing of the breath of life and there is the time for expelling it. There is perfect rhythm in all that is happening. Find peace and harmony within it.

·       MY WAYS - My ways are strange and wonderful, but they are not man's ways. Therefore you find them baffling and bewildering. Learn to go with them, accept them. How easy all this sounds in theory, but putting it into practice, living it ever moment of the day and night is a different matter... yet words without action are empty and futile. Each must learn to live a life, hiding nothing. Strain comes when you cannot be your true Self and you are trying to hide something. Learn to put people before things and be relaxed in all you do.

·       AWAITING THE OPPORTUNITY - Wait on Me in absolute peace and confidence and know that I will reveal the Truth and that the Truth will set you free. Those times when you can just Be are beneficial not only to you but to all you contact. Try more often to Be. Times when you are alone are so precious; they are quite magical, as so much can happen in you and through you. I can so fill you that you become full. God-conscious, a powerhouse for Love and Light to be generated and radiated out into the world. Wonders are awaiting to be revealed through channels.

·       CHOOSE MY WAY - Be still and feel within you the rhythm of life and go with it. Make up your mind whether you wish to conform to man-made laws or to do My will whatever the costs. The choice lies in your own hands. You are free to choose and no one else can make the choice for you. Often the world will condemn you when you choose My way, but with My blessings you can face what is to come without flinching, and know that when you do My will only the perfect can be the final result.

·       RELAX! - Relax! Give yourself over completely to Me. There is much to be done but it can be done better in a less desperate hurry. Enjoy everything you do. Savour every action like a connoisseur. Be satisfied only with perfection.

Divine Messages - 85 : Glimpses of the Divine Vision by Swami Ramdas - Meditation

An extract from the book “Glimpses of the Divine Vision” by Swami Ramdas – Section “Meditation”

·         At intervals, during the periods of mental repetition of Ram Nam, thoughts of the great attributes of God as the all-pervading, infinite, changeless, formless, eternal Truth, and also as the universal manifestation, must be dwelt upon by the mind. Know, in the first place, that the supreme Reality is within your own heart and that He and you are one. By concentrating your mind, i.e., by making all thoughts converge up to one point, revert your gaze within. Therein lies the splendour of your soul which animates all your thoughts. This splendour is the divine consciousness within you. Then you behold the immortal consciousness within you. Then you behold the immortal root of your existence and of the world, from which your mind and all manifestations derive their light and movement. In short, to turn your gaze within and see your own eternal Self is to see God. Repetition of Ram Nam simultaneously with meditation on the great Ideal is perfectly right. But the remembrance must flow in the mind without break like the stream of oil poured from one vessel into another. This must continue until you lose yourself entirely in the infinite Reality, and rising above the body- consciousness, feel one with all lives and existences.

·         During meditation, repeat mentally the Ram Mantram; you have to bring up in it the glorious attributes of God. After some practice, let even the repetition of the Mantram stop so that the mind may be perfectly still without any waves of thought rising in it. Thus be self-absorbed for some time. You may see lights at this stage, or hear sweet sounds from within. Go past these until you transcend the body-consciousness. Go on steadily in your course. Cling firmly to the Lord’s Name. It will save you from all pit-falls and temptations.

·         By concentrating your mind on the sound of the Name, the mind absorbs the Name, and thereafter mental repetition starts. This mental practice at a certain stage ceases, bringing on inner stillness and peace. Meditation on the great attributes of the Lord should go on side by side. Then, the pure and waveless mind merges in the great Truth, and you attain Self-illumination. This experience takes you still higher and grants you the rare cosmic vision which is the goal of your life.

·         You have to realize that you are the whole and all-inclusive Truth. You get thrills of bliss when you have completely merged your individual sense in God-the universal consciousness. If you could maintain this supreme consciousness at all times you will ever live in the Eternal, and be ever in a state of perfect freedom and ecstasy. Rise above name and form, and you experience your onenes lives with all existences. The sense of duality-be it between you and the world or between you and God- is the offspring of ignorance. So soar to the height of the transcendent Truth where all forms and lives resolve into one. Divine Name is a ladder by the help of which you ascend to the supreme zenith of the above described state. When through the repetition of the Name, the mind gets dissolved in the ocean of stillness and peace within you, repetition of the Name is no longer necessary. Of course, off and on, you can drink the nectar of the charming music of the Name, but do not depend entirely upon this music for your peace and bliss. Because no joy which is conditioned and dependent can be permanent. Through the power of the Name, let the bliss of the eternal Atman, which is self existent and independent, reveal itself within you, so that you can experience it at all times and in all states. Find joy in the non-repetition of the name as much as in the repetition of it, by realizing that all the activities of your life are tuned together by the divine Shakti to produce the sweet music of the Name. Listen to this music in all sounds and movements in yourself and the world. Verily, all the worlds and beings move and act to the grand symphony of God’s own music.

·         If you unite yourself with your all-powerful and immortal Self through meditation, you will gain untold strength and will conquer every weakness. Go on with the practice. By continued effort you will succeed.

·         The end and aim of all spiritual Sadhanas is to merge your individuality in the great universal Reality beyond name, form and movement. So, enter still deeper in meditation so that your  body consciousness may entirely leave you, thus, granting you an experience of the Nirguna aspect of God. Let all the waves of Sankalpa and Vikalpa be totally subdued. Transcend all sounds, lights and forms that appear before your mental vision in meditation. After gaining this realization of the inmost truth of your being, come out of it with a transformed vision that beholds every being, creature and thing in the visible manifestation, as the image of that great Truth whom you have experienced in the depths of meditation. See the whole Prakriti and the power that works in it as belonging to the Divine Mother- -Shakti who is the manifest aspect of the Lord who is both this aspect and also the unmanifest, unaffected, invisible, all- pervading, motionless, changeless, all-peaceful and ever blissful Truth. Feel thereafter all your actions and thoughts, all your impulses and feelings, as the expressions of the Divine Mother- Shakti Herself. Now you will know that the ego no longer exists in you and all your actions start only from the great universal centre- Shakti. This is the height of realization which you have to reach. March onward until you attain to this highest goal. May the Lord grant you courage and strength and lead you to this loftiest consummation of life.

Divine Messages - 84 : Words of Wisdom by Dada J P Vaswani

Some Words of Wisdom by Dada J P Vaswani
  • Which is the best city in the world? SIMPLICITY
  • What sleep is to the body, meditation is to the soul.
  • In Thy Will, is the peace I seek - Thou knowest everything, Beloved! Let Thy Will always be done! In joy and sorrow, my Beloved! Let Thy Will always be done!
  • There is nothing more valuable than longing, There is nothing higher than longing.
  • Be kind to everyone. Who knows the next person you meet may have a broken heart.
  • Life is like a mirror. What you put into it, comes back to you - perhaps more, never less!
  • Apology is not defeat. Indeed it is a sense of victory over the self & over a bad situation which ceases to be irreparable once you apologize.
  • Love and fault-finding never go together. The more you love, the less you judge.
  • Hatred is self-punishment. When you hold the grudge against someone, it only disturbs your peace of mind.
  • Love is not love until it expresses itself in action. Another name for love-in-action is service and sacrifice.

Divine Messages - 83 : Words of Wisdom by Dada J P Vaswani

Some words of wisdom by Dada J P Vaswani

  • Success is getting what you want – and the wants keep on increasing. To be truly happy, you need to only count your blessings.
  • Whenever you find you have a feeling of hurt, it is the Ego. The universal self can never feel hurt.
  • Blessed are they that hold their anger in check! The chariot of their life moves smoothly as a boat on a tranquil lake!
  • The attitude of gratitude makes us open & receptive to the Lord's blessings. And we will find that good things will come to pass in our life.
  • How often do you say Thank You God - Gratitude is the foundation of a peaceful life, a secure and stable mind; it is also the essence of spirituality.
  • In prayer, let us ask for less, thank more! Thank the Lord for His mercies which endure from everlasting to everlasting
  • Let us be quick to love and prompt to serve - "Every moment should be a moment of Thanksgiving to the Lord”

Divine Messages - 82 : Words of Wisdom by Dada J P Vaswani

Some words of wisdom by Dada J P Vaswani

  • This whole phenomenal existence is for a few days, but it is built in eternity & the eternity is what you call God
  • Do not cry or shout or shed tears of sorrow. But let our hearts roll out in gratitude to God
  • The Guru transports us to a new world of new dimensions, which is fragrant, fair & fresh. In comparison, this world is so dark & gloomy
  • Be liberal in your praise of & your gratitude to God. The degree of his generosity is beyond compare & the scope of his giving is unfathomable
  • Attend to your duties gently, lovingly, trustingly. Never feel upset. Do not be angry with anyone.
  • The opposite of love is apathy, that is, indifference towards those around us.
  • Come what may, never lose your patience, your courage and your faith.

Divine Messages - 81 : The Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna by 'M'ahendranath Gupta - Futility of Reasoning and Ways of God Realisation

Extracts from the book “The Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna” by ‘M’ahendranath Gupta (conversations between Sri Ramakrishna, the Master, and his disciples / devotees)

Futility of reasoning

MASTER (to Rākhāl ): "It is not good to reason too much.  First comes God, and then the world.  Realize God first; then you will know all about His world.  (To M. and Rākhāl ) If first one is introduced to Jadu Mallick, then one can know everything about him-the number of his houses, gardens, government securities, and so on.  For this reason the rishi Nārada advised Valmiki1 to repeat the word 'mara'.  'Ma' means God, and 'ra' the world.  First comes God, and then the world.  Krishnakishore said that the word 'mara' is a holy mantra because it was given to Valmiki by the rishi.  'Ma' means God, and 'rā' the world."

"Therefore, like Valmiki, one should at first renounce everything and cry to God in solitude with a longing heart.  The first thing necessary is the vision of God; then comes reasoning-about the scriptures and the world.
(To M.) "That is why I have been telling you not to reason any more.  I came from the pine-grove to say that to you.  Through too much reasoning your spiritual life will be injured; you will at last become like Hazra.  I used to roam at night in the streets, all alone, and cry to the Divine Mother, 'O Mother, blight with Thy thunderbolt my desire to reason!' Tell me that you won't reason any more."

M: "Yes, sir.  I won't reason any more."

MASTER: "Everything can be achieved through bhakti alone.  Those who want the Knowledge of Brahman will certainly achieve that also by following the trail of bhakti."

"Can a man blessed with the grace of God ever lack Knowledge? At Kamarpukur I have seen grain-dealers measuring paddy.  As one heap is measured away another heap is pushed forward to be measured.  The Mother supplies the devotees with the 'heap' of Knowledge."

"After attaining God, one looks on a pundit as mere straw and dust.  Padmalochan said to me: 'What does it matter if I accompany you to a meeting at the house of a fisherman?2  With you I can dine even at the house of a pariah."
"Everything can be realized simply through love of God.  If one is able to love God, one does not lack anything.  Kartika and Ganesa were seated near Bhagavati, who had a necklace of gems around Her neck.  The Divine Mother said to them, 'I will present this necklace to him who is the first to go around the universe.' Thereupon Kartika, without losing a moment, set out on the peacock, his carrier.  Ganesa, on the other hand, in a leisurely fashion went around the Divine Mother and prostrated himself before Her.  He knew that She contained within Herself the entire universe.  The Divine Mother was pleased with him and put the necklace around his neck.  After a long while Kartika returned and found his brother seated there with the necklace on."

Two ways of God-realization

MASTER: "There are two ways.  One is the path of discrimination, the other is that of love.  Discrimination means to know the distinction between the Real and the unreal.  God alone is the real and permanent Substance; all else is illusory and impermanent.  The magician alone is real; his magic is illusory.  This is discrimination.

"Discrimination and renunciation.  Discrimination means to know the distinction between the Real and the unreal.  Renunciation means to have dispassion for the things of the world.  One cannot acquire them all of a sudden.  They must be practised every day.  One should renounce 'woman and gold' mentally at first.  Then, by the will of God, one can renounce it both mentally and outwardly.  It is impossible to ask the people of Calcutta to renounce all for the sake of God.  One has to tell them to renounce mentally.

Constant practice urged

"Through the discipline of constant practice one is able to give up attachment to 'woman and gold'.  That is what the Gita says.  By practice one acquires uncommon power of mind.  Then one doesn't find it difficult to subdue the sense-organs and to bring anger, lust, and the like under control.  Such a man behaves like a tortoise, which, once it has tucked in its limbs, never puts them out.  You cannot make the tortoise put its limbs out again, though you chop it to pieces with an axe."

Divine Messages - 80 : The Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna by 'M'ahendranath Gupta - Traits of a True Devotee and the Seven Planes of Vedas

Extracts from the book “The Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna” by ‘M’ahendranath Gupta (conversations between Sri Ramakrishna, the Master, and his disciples / devotees)

Traits of a true devotee

"There are certain signs by which you can know a true devotee of God.  His mind becomes quiet as he listens to his teacher's instruction, just as the poisonous snake is quieted by the music of the charmer. I don't mean the cobra. There is another sign. A real devotee develops the power of assimilating instruction. An image cannot be impressed on bare glass, but only on glass stained with a black solution, as in photography. The black solution is devotion to God. There is a third sign of a true devotee. The true devotee has controlled his senses. He has subdued his lust. The gopis were free from lust."

"You are talking about your leading a householder's life. Suppose you are a householder. It rather helps in the practice of spiritual discipline. It is like fighting from inside a fort. The Tantriks sometimes use a corpse in their religious rites. Now and then the dead body frightens them by opening its mouth. That is why they keep fried rice and grams near them, and from time to time they throw some of the grains into the corpse's mouth. Thus pacifying the corpse, they repeat the name of the Deity without any worry. Likewise, the householder should pacify his wife and the other members of his family. He should provide them with food and other necessities. Thus he removes the obstacles to his practice of spiritual discipline."

"Those who still have a few worldly experiences to enjoy should lead a householder's life and pray to God. That is why Nityananda allowed the worldly to enjoy catfish soup and the warm embrace of a young woman while repeating God's name."

"But it is quite different with genuine sannyasis. A bee lights on flowers and on nothing else. To the chatak all water except rain is tasteless. It will drink no other water, but looks up agape for the rain that falls when the star Svati is in the ascendant. It drinks only that water. A real sannyasi will not enjoy any kind of bliss except the Bliss of God. The bee lights only on flowers. The real monk is like a bee, whereas the householder devotee is like a common fly, which lights on a festering sore as well as on a sweetmeat."

"You have taken so much trouble to come here. You must be seeking God. But almost everyone is satisfied simply by seeing the garden. Only one or two look for its owner. People enjoy the beauty of the world; they do not seek its Owner."

(Pointing to the singer) "A little while ago he sang a song describing the six centres. These are dealt with in Yoga. There are two kinds of yoga: hathayoga and rajayoga. The hathayogi practises physical exercises. His goal is to acquire supernatural powers: longevity and the eight psychic powers. These are his aims. But the aim of rajayoga is the attainment of devotion, ecstatic love, knowledge, and renunciation. Of these two, rajayoga is the better."

Seven planes of the Vedas

"There is much similarity between the seven 'planes' described in the Vedānta and the six 'centres' of Yoga. The first three planes of the Vedas may be compared to the first three Yogic centres, namely, Muladhara, Svadhisthana, and Manipura. With ordinary people the mind dwells in these three planes, at the organs of evacuation and generation and at the navel. When the mind ascends to the fourth plane, the centre designated in Yoga as Anahata, it sees the individual soul as a flame. Besides, it sees light. At this the aspirant cries: 'Ah! What is this? Ah! What is this?'"

"When the mind rises to the fifth plane, the aspirant wants to hear only about God. This is the Visuddha centre of Yoga. The sixth plane and the centre known by the yogi as Ajna are one and the same. When the mind rises there, the aspirant sees God. But still there is a barrier between God and the devotee. It is like the barrier of glass in a lantern, which keeps one from touching the light. King Janaka used to give instruction about Brahmajnana from the fifth plane. Sometimes he dwelt on the fifth plane, and sometimes on the sixth."

"After passing the six centres the aspirant arrives at the seventh plane. Reaching it, the mind merges in Brahman. The individual soul and the Supreme Soul become one. The aspirant goes into samadhi. His consciousness of the body disappears. He loses the knowledge of the outer world. He does not see the manifold any more. His reasoning comes to a stop."

"Trailanga Swami once said that because a man reasons he is conscious of multiplicity, of variety. Attaining samadhi, one gives up the body in twenty-one days. Spiritual consciousness is not possible without the awakening of the Kundalini."

"A man who has realized God shows certain characteristics. He becomes like a child or a madman, or an inert thing or a ghoul. Further, he is firmly convinced that he is the machine and God is its Operator, that God alone is the Doer and all others are His instruments. As some Sikh devotees once said to me, even the leaf moves because of God's will. One should be aware that everything happens by the will of Rāma. The weaver said: 'The price of the cloth, by the will of Rāma, is one rupee six annas. By the will of Rāma the robbery was committed. By the will of Rāma the robbers were arrested. By the will of Rāma I too was arrested by the police. And at last, by the will of Rāma, I was released."
